Welcome to Maynooth Taekwon-Do School. Taekwon-Do is a Korean martial art that combines self-defence and combat, sport, exercise, as well as a code of conduct and philosophy.
We welcome people of all ages to our club and invite you to come along to try out Taekwon-Do for yourself.
It is a great oppertunity to meet people, make new friends, improve both physical and mental health and learn practical self-defence skills. Details of our class times and location can be found on this website. We look forward to training with you.
The School was established in December 2007 under the instruction of Mr. Gareth Curran. The school is a member of the Irish National Taekwon-Do Association (INTA), which is the national association for the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF), and is also affiliated to the All European Taekwon-Do Federation (AETF).
Maynooth Taekwon-Do School teaches ITF style Taekwon-Do to students of all ages and within the first three months of opening our membership had tripled in size and continues to grow thanks to the dedication of our students and the strong reputation we are building in the local community.
Our aim is to teach this Korean martial art both as a form of self-defence and as a sport. It is an empty hand martial art, meaning we do not use weapons, because a student who is well versed in Taekwon-Do will have no need for them. However, we do teach how to defend against the more modern weapons that are found and used in society today, and stay clear of swords and nunchuks, which had their place in the ancient orient.
Yours in Taekwon-Do,
Gareth Curran (IV),
Chief Instructor
