Our story
History of the school
Maynooth Taekwon-Do School was established in 2007 under the instruction of Mr. Gareth Curran (VI). The club is affiliated to the International Taekwon-Do Federation Headquarters in Korea (ITF HQ Korea), the only recognised ITF in the homeland of Taekwon-Do.
Since opening, the school has gone from strength to strength thanks to the dedication of our members and the strong reputation we are building in the local community. Our students not only thrive at local and national level but have also competed very successfully on the international stage.
Our students are graded according to guidelines laid out by the International Taekwon-Do Federation, ensuring their grade and ability is recognised worldwide.
Our aim
Teaching Taekwon-Do to the highest standard
Our aim is to teach ITF-style Taekwon-Do to students of all ages, both as a form of self-defence and as a sport. It is an empty-hand martial art: we do not use weapons, because a student who is well versed in Taekwon-Do will have no need for them. We do, however, teach how to defend against the modern weapons found in society today.
Our instructors are committed to their own personal development and dedicated to teaching to the highest international standards. We provide opportunities for members to compete at local, national and international level, while promoting good sportsmanship and respect for all participants.
We aim to provide a safe and fun environment for all our members, with Garda vetted instructors and qualified Children’s Officers for our junior members.
If you would like to practise Taekwon-Do, we hope you will join us at Maynooth Taekwon-Do School. We look forward to training with you in the future.
